A message from Las Fotos Project ...

Hello friends,

Many of you have reached out to us regarding the status of our 6th Annual Viva La Muxer event. The team at Las Fotos Project has been closely monitoring the daily developments with COVID-19 (“Coronavirus”) in order to make more informed decisions in line with the latest health recommendations from the CDC, state, and city leaders.

After much consideration, we have decided to cancel our 6th Annual Viva La Muxer Arts & Music Benefit Festival, scheduled for Saturday, June 13, 2020, in order to protect your safety and that of our artists, vendors, performers, and supporters.

We know that there are many questions that may arise, we’ve answered a few of them below:

What happens now?

Although we are saddened to cancel our beloved womxn-powered fundraising event at this time, we know that it is for the better. We understand that many in our community are being impacted across the board by COVID-19 and we are seeking to honor that by offering resources, online engagement opportunities, and more during this challenging moment (please view below).

How does this affect Las Fotos Project?

We are feeling the impacts of the cancellation in both our hearts and our programs. Every year we’ve pushed through heat, rain and technical issues to bring together an amazing community and raise $25,000 for our programs. However, our community’s health and our students’ health is what is important right now. In the coming months, we will be focusing on how to sustain our programming and the emotional well-being of our students. As of last week, all of our youth programs at Las Fotos Project moved online. Our teaching artists and mentors have been virtually connecting with students one-on-one and in groups, prioritizing each girls’ mental health and offering creative assignments that can be safely done in their home spaces. With so much in flux, maintaining a sense of normalcy and community is critical. That is why we are continuing our programming at Las Fotos Project and developing new models to support our youth through photography.

How can I help?

We thank all of you who chose to support Las Fotos Project either by buying a ticket, contributing as an artist or as a partner. As you can imagine, canceling our annual fundraiser provides its own challenges for our organization’s financial health.

If you purchased a ticket or submitted an artist fee –
we would be happy to provide you with a refund, but we kindly ask you to consider converting your contribution into a one-time donation for Las Fotos Project.

This will be a difficult time for our organization as we navigate COVID-19, and we would appreciate your support. Our organization does rely heavily on the funds generated from this event, and now that this event is canceled, we will need your support more than ever.

We also invite you to join us as a monthly supporter through our Sister Circle! Starting at just $25 a month, Sister Circle members make ongoing monthly contributions to ensure that Las Fotos Project has a stable source of support to thrive. Through its member contributions, the Sister Circle will help produce student-led photography projects. Our Sister Circle members become part of a network of womxn who seek to uplift girls and connect via social gatherings (virtual at this moment) or future events. Your Viva La Muxer contribution will go toward the first month of your Sister Circle membership. If you have questions about our Sister Circle, please feel free to email Lucia at lucia@lasfotosproject.org
