Las Fotos Project Student FAQ:

How can I apply? Are applications accepted all year long?

We accept student applications before every semester, usually in January & July/August. The best way to ensure you’re notified of open spots is to fill out our student interest form. Once you receive a notification that applications are open, we encourage you to fill it out and submit as soon as possible as our open spots are filled on a first come, first served basis.

What are the age requirements to be a student?

13 – 18! If you will be turning 13 by the time the semester begins or just turned 18, you’re welcomed to fill out an application or student interest form!

Do I need to have photography experience?

Nope! We are here to teach you! If you’re new to photography or already have a bit of experience, we’re here to support you. We have various classes for all skill levels.

Do I need to have my own camera?

Nope! We’ll provide one that you can use and learn with during your class.

Do I have to be enrolled in a specific school or live in a specific city?

Nope! We welcome all teen girls from the general Los Angeles area. The only requirement is that you’re able to get to and from class every week. (NOTE: We will be offering both in person and virtual class in Fall 2021). Students outside of LA County are welcome to join, so long as they are able to pick up equipment in the East Los Angeles area.)

When are classes held?

Classes are held once a week either after-school or on the weekends. In the Fall 2021 semester, we will have the option to take in person or virtual classes.  Once you apply and list your preferences, we will reach out to enroll you in a class.

What is the time commitment for a student?

Students are required to spend a minimum of 4 hours a week for 14 weeks here at Las Fotos Project. This time includes attending class, and having weekly check-ins with your mentor, taking photos each week and uploading them into the google drive. Attendance in all classes is mandatory.

What opportunities outside of the classroom does Las Fotos Project offer students?

You can apply to get involved in leadership roles through our Youth Advisory Council. Their voices and opinions are integral to the decision making processes within our organization. Through our CEO program, students have the opportunity to be hired for paid photo gigs from clients throughout Los Angeles. You also can submit photos to sell and earn revenue from The Foto Shop
