Motion by Ixchel Gallegos

Fall 2014, Esta Soy Yo – Boyle Heights

“I chose this photo because I like that you can see the motion going on, and at the same time see that there is no motion happening behind it. I was on the metro when I took this photo. The metro was moving when I took the shot. The stillness in the background shows the environment. The motion shows the people still alive in the community today.

The people in it look blurry. The guy on the right wearing the gray shirt looks almost digitalized. The person in the middle looks like a ghost. The guy on the right in the background looks like a regular guy walking. To me, the building in the back with the art on it represents the artists in the community.

This is what this photo is about to me. It isn’t correct or incorrect. Whatever this photo is communicating to you is what it is about.”
