This Is What My Mornings Are Like by Ashley Rojas

Fall 2015 Partnership with College Track

“Every morning is a blur of colors, everybody moving too fast. Every day it’s the same. We wake up, get ready, and the kids go to school, and the adults go to work. The only thing on our minds in the morning is getting out of the house on time so we won’t be late. The mess is inevitable. My mom has little to no time to clean the room in the morning, we need the money and getting to work late is not an option. My mom works in a warehouse about an hour away from my home. When I get home after school it’s not a surprise to see the room in an unorganized state. I start picking up the room because it’s the only way to demonstrate how much I appreciate what my mother does for me. We are very close and it hurts me to think that after a long day at work my mama’s job is not over yet. All I can do is smile because I would not trade this life for anything.”
